While studying in Nantes, France, I explored the creative coding and web-based hosting to breathe new life into a historical masterpiece. This project sought to augment an existing artwork using Augmented Reality, adding a contemporary, kinetic layer to a static classic.

Inspired by Wassily Kandinsky’s synaesthesia - the neurological phenomenon where sound is perceived as colour - I chose to re-imagine his 1930 piece, Leichtes. Its inherently weightless, drifting composition provided the perfect canvas for motion.

The Process

Asset Creation: I deconstructed the original elements in Adobe Illustrator.

Animation: Orchestrated the movements in After Effects, utilising a white track mask to preserve transparency against a green-screen background for clean keying.

AR Implementation: Leveraging an AR framework, I developed a target-based trigger using the original painting to launch the spatial MP4 overlay.

Seamless Accessibility

A core goal was removing barriers to entry. By hosting the project on GitHub, I ensured the experience remains entirely browser-based. There is no need for external apps; anyone with the link can witness Kandinsky’s "inner resonance" come to life instantly through their own device.
